SMC and BMC materials are composite materials.
BMC (DMC) material is abbreviated as Bulk (Dough) molding compounds, which is group molding plastic. It is often called unsaturated polyester group molding plastics. Its main raw material is GF (chopped glass fiber), UP (unsaturated resin), MD (filler) and various additives by a full mixing of a group of pre impregnated material. DMC materials were first applied in the former West Germany and the United Kingdom in twentieth Century and 60s, and then developed greatly in the United States and Japan in 70s and 80s respectively. Because BMC BMC has electrical properties, excellent mechanical properties, heat resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and adapt to the forming process, can meet the performance requirements of various products, widely used in automobile manufacturing, railway transportation, construction fittings, mechanical and electrical products etc.
SMC composite is Sheet molding compound abbreviation, which is sheet molding compound. The main raw materials are made up of GF (special yarn), UP (unsaturated resin), low shrinkage additive, MD (filler) and various auxiliaries. It first appeared in Europe in the early 1960s, and developed in the United States and Japan around 1965. At the end of 80s, China introduced advanced SMC production line and production process abroad. SMC composite and its SMC molded products have excellent electrical insulation properties, mechanical properties, thermal stability and chemical resistance. Therefore, SMC products have a wide range of applications. The trend now is that SMC composites will eventually replace BMC materials.
